Organ tour 2.0 - Organs reborn
15:00 – 16:30
Ticket: 4000 Ft
The Benedictine monastery of Pannonhalma is a special place not only for its architectural and natural heritage, but also for its musical instruments. On the Organ Tour, you can see the abbey's unique and renovated organs in action, the four-register organ built by Martin Podkonický around 1750 and the positive six-register organ built by master builder Ferenc Elgász in Győr in 1820. The Benedictine monk Konrád Dejcsics gives an illustrative introduction to these special instruments, and organist Zsolt Kiss plays them. We will learn about the portative organ, the stops, the mixtures, the origins of the crescendo and decrescendo, the monastic life, the Eastern church and even the types of bells. It will also be mentioned how the Benedictine monk Dr. Kilián Szigeti laid the foundations of a museum organ collection in the 1970s, and how his unique collecting skills enabled him to rescue late Renaissance and early Baroque instruments at the 24th hour. The music and art history tour ends with a light rosé toast.

Psalm at the bus stop

The Psalter as a stop on the pilgrimage of our days
During my studies in Budapest, where I studied at several training centres at the same time, I sometimes prayed a psalm while waiting for the bus. Drawing on this experience, I invite those interested in spirituality and self-knowledge to read and pray a psalm or two together in front of the Archabbey gates, in the open air, almost at the bus stop. These texts will accompany us on our pilgrimage through the week. We take them with us from outside to somewhere inside, to a more homely environment. As we walk up to the Student Chapel, we may notice that the words of Scripture are making a pilgrimage within us, seeking their destination where they can truly meet us. Capacity: 25 people
Participation in the programme is free of charge, but registration is required. Registration here.

Pilgrimage experiences
16:45 – 17:45
Ticket: 1500 Ft
Benedictine monks Ábel Halmos and Henrik Ontko, Noémi Győri and Gergely Madaras in conversation about spirituality, music and art "Two are fragile, let's call a third brother, three of us have a better chance of going the distance." That's how three Benedictine monks set off on their bikes for the Holy Land. Following this principle, we invited the artistic directors of Arcus to join the brothers in the Pilgrim's Experience discussion, to give them a better chance of exploring the many dimensions of pilgrimage.

The classic labyrinth in the Pannonhalma arboretum is the longest path between the entrance and the centre. The constant pulsation of the path, the ebb and flow of the approach to the centre and the distance from it, makes the labyrinth an inner initiatory path, a meditative journey that, depending on our life situation and our world view, can be an opportunity to meet ourselves and the God within us. During the labyrinth walk, we also draw on the psalms of the Bible, which, by capturing and expressing the diversity of human experience, can bring us closer to all that is within us.
Participation in the programme is subject to pre-registration and sponsorship ticket purchase. Register here.

"Rosary without inspiration" - performance by Ádám Bősze
13:30 – 14:30
Concert Hall
Ticket: 2500 Ft
on the sacred music of Joseph Haydn There are legends about the method Joseph Haydn used to compose. How he only sat down at his desk properly dressed, how he always made up a story before writing a symphony and then 'set it to music', and how he would take out his rosary if he had nothing else on his mind. I do not promise to confirm or disprove any of this, but I do promise to introduce the listener to the world in which the religious Haydn lived and worked by showing the church music of the Esterházy court and some of the composer's sacred compositions. /Ádám Bősze/
