The Benedictine monastery of Pannonhalma is a special place not only for its architectural and natural heritage, but also for its musical instruments. On the Organ Tour, you can see the abbey's unique and renovated organs in action, the four-register organ built by Martin Podkonický around 1750 and the positive six-register organ built by master builder Ferenc Elgász in Győr in 1820. The Benedictine monk Konrád Dejcsics gives an illustrative introduction to these special instruments, and organist Zsolt Kiss plays them. We will learn about the portative organ, the stops, the mixtures, the origins of the crescendo and decrescendo, the monastic life, the Eastern church and even the types of bells. It will also be mentioned how the Benedictine monk Dr. Kilián Szigeti laid the foundations of a museum organ collection in the 1970s, and how his unique collecting skills enabled him to rescue late Renaissance and early Baroque instruments at the 24th hour. The music and art history tour ends with a light rosé toast.
