Arcus Temporum XXI - 22 - 24. August 2025
For 2025, the monastic community of Pannonhalma has chosen the concept of the "garden" as the theme of the spiritual, cultural and tourist season of the Archabbey. The 21st Arcus Temporum Arts Festival will also reflect this motto in its programmes from 22-24 August 2025.
The garden, and in particular the monastery garden, is a place of healing, silence and encounter with God in the Benedictine tradition. The cultural, artistic and literary programmes of Arcus Temporum invite us to spend time in the presence of God, both in spiritual occasions and in the intimacy and silence offered by the millennium-old walls. The festival is framed by the monastic community's prayerful agenda, reminding us that He is at the centre of our lives.
The Year of the Garden also invites the monastic community, the monastery's staff, friends, visitors and the audience of the Arcus Temporum Arts Festival to focus on the unique but endangered treasure that has been preserved and cared for by the monastery's monks and staff since the first half of the 19th century. As well as to discover the healing powers, cultural significance and gastronomic-culinary potential of the herb garden's flagship plants.
In 2024, Arcus Temporum has already welcomed pianists Izabella Simon and Dénes Várjon as performers. They will return to Pannonhalma in 2025 as artistic directors of the festival. "We look forward to the 21st Arcus Temporum Festival with great joy and anticipation. In Pannonhalma we can meet each other and the arts on a higher level through spirituality, music and literature. Through years of planning, spiritual attunement and reflection, we hope to experience unforgettable days together in August 2025."
The concert programme for the 21st Arcus Temporum will be structured around the compositions of Felix Mendelssohn and Jörg Widmann. The literary guest of honour is Zsuzsa Rakovszky, Kossuth Prize-winning Hungarian writer, poet and literary translator.
